On 4th April, 1915, the 2nd Yorkshire Light Infantry battalion of 13 Brigade, 5th Division moved into trenches at Verbranden Molen near Hill 60, just to the south of Ypres. Richard Daly was killed on the following day, 5th April, when the enemy brought up large trench mortars “Minen Werfers” in front of the trench held by D Company which was then heavily bombed and shelled at intervals throughout the day causing 14 casualties and severely damaging the trench. |
